FAQ

How do I know if I need new headshots?

A good rule of thumb is to update your headshots every one to three years. You should also take new headshots if your appearance has changed in a noticeable way, such as a new haircut, significant weight change, or a shift in how you present yourself professionally. Your headshots should always reflect how you look now, not how you looked a few years ago.

How much do headshots cost at Nice Headshots?

Our in-studio headshot sessions start at $375. Pricing varies based on the session type and number of looks you choose. Full details for in-studio, on-location, and team headshot sessions can be found on our pricing page.

What’s included in a headshot session?

Every session at Nice Headshots includes:

  • Prep material to help you feel confident and prepared
  • Look consultation to review outfits and plan transitions
  • A relaxed, guided shoot with direction throughout
  • An online proofs gallery to view and select your images

What’s included can vary slightly by session type. Full details are outlined on each pricing page.

How do I book a session?

Once you’ve chosen the session that fits your needs, you can book directly through our pricing page. If you have questions before booking, you’re always welcome to reach out through our contact page.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking as soon as you know your ideal date and time. Sessions can be booked up to six weeks out, and we don’t take on bookings with less than two weeks’ notice. A strong headshot session takes preparation — from planning looks to scheduling haircuts or booking a hair and makeup artist — and allowing enough time helps ensure you’re not rushing the process. Availability is limited, so locking in your date early is always best.

Can I split a headshot session with another person?

Our headshot sessions are meant for a single client. Photographing multiple people requires additional time, preparation, and post-session work. For that reason, sessions cannot be split between individuals. If you’re looking to photograph a group or team, we offer dedicated team and company headshot sessions.

Do you offer business headshots?

Absolutely! Whether you’re a creative entrepreneur, a startup founder, or a corporate professional, we offer approachable headshots that align with your professional brand. You can view examples of our business headshots in our portfolio.

Where is your headshot studio located?

We’re based in Downtown Los Angeles, easily accessible from Hollywood, Burbank, and surrounding LA neighborhoods. See it on Google Maps.

As an actor, how many headshot looks do I need?

We recommend four looks to build a well-rounded portfolio. Whether you're just starting out or updating your headshots to reflect who you are today, four distinct looks give you versatility and better coverage of your casting range.

Three is the minimum we offer because anything less rarely makes a meaningful impact. More looks = more opportunities to showcase versatility.

As a business professional, how many headshot looks do I need?

We recommend two looks for business professional headshots. A polished professional look paired with a more relaxed business-casual option gives you flexibility across multiple platforms.

How long does a headshot session take?

Session length varies based on the number of looks you’ve booked and your specific needs. We schedule the appropriate amount of studio time allowing room for natural pacing, minor hair adjustments, and reasonable makeup changes between looks. Major or time-intensive hair and makeup changes require booking additional studio time. While the environment is relaxed and supportive, we also work efficiently to keep the session on track, as we often have other clients scheduled throughout the day.

What should I wear to my headshot session?

After booking, you’ll receive detailed prep material to help you choose wardrobe that supports your goals. We also offer a look consultation a week before your shoot to review your looks so you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Do you offer on-location sessions?

Yes. We offer naturally lit, on-location headshot sessions photographed outside of our studio. You can find full details on the on-location pricing page.

Why is on-location more expensive than in-studio?

On-location sessions come with more variables, from travel and timing to natural light and environmental factors. The higher price reflects the additional planning and adaptability needed to create strong, consistent headshots outside of a controlled studio setting.

Is hair and makeup included in headshot sessions?

Hair and makeup is not included in the base session rate. However, when you book, we’ll send you a list of trusted hair and makeup artists we recommend—professionals we’ve worked with who deliver camera-ready looks for headshots at a range of price points.

Can I bring my own hair and makeup artist?

Yes, you're welcome to bring your own—but we do want to be honest about our experience.

Some clients have brought artists who were either too glam or editorial for headshots or created a stressful atmosphere in the studio. That’s why we recommend using one of our trusted artists—they understand headshot styling and bring the kind of positive, collaborative energy we value.

If your artist is great with natural looks, knows how to style for headshots, and brings a supportive vibe to the session, they're absolutely welcome!

I’ve never had headshots taken before is that okay?

Absolutely- we love first-timers! We guide you through the entire process, from preparation to posing, so you never feel unsure about what to do.

Will you help with posing and direction?

Of course! Direction is a big part of our process. We’ll guide you through poses, expressions, and adjustments so you don’t feel stiff or left guessing during your session.

How soon will I receive my photos?

Clients receive their headshot proofs in an online gallery 7-10 business days from their shoot date.

How many final images do I receive?

Each session is unique, but we make sure you have a wide range of options to choose from. Most clients walk away with 100+ proofs.

What are headshot proofs?

Headshot proofs are lightly edited images from your session, delivered in a reduced-size format. Some clients find their proofs ready to use, while others use their proofs to:

  • Review and compare looks and expressions
  • Select their favorite images for editing
  • Share with agents, managers, or coaches

All proofs are delivered in a password-protected online gallery that remains available for one year.

Can I purchase full-resolution headshots?

Yes. Full-resolution headshots are available for purchase at $5 per image. If you choose to have your headshots edited, those images are always delivered in full-resolution and are $15 per image.

What is your editing process?

We understand the balance between lightly enhancing a headshot and keeping it authentic. Our editing approach uses thoughtful tools to bring out your best features without pushing images into a heavy-handed or overly “Photoshopped” look. We celebrate what makes you you.

We don’t believe in altering someone’s appearance or chasing unrealistic beauty standards. While powerful tools exist to dramatically change how a person looks, our process prioritizes authenticity and restraint. You should recognize yourself in your headshots and feel proud of how you’re represented.

You can view our full editing process here.

I’m a past client do you still have my proofs available for download?

It depends on when your session took place. Proofs are available in your private online gallery for one year from the date they’re delivered. We encourage clients to download and save their images within that time frame, as galleries expire after one year and we can’t guarantee storage beyond that point.
